I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

Je peux dire avec confiance que les cours en ligne sont les mêmes que les cours en personne. PROGRAMME D'ÉTUDES Je ne crois pas qu'une seule méthode fonctionne pour tous les élèves. J'ai utilisé de nombreux manuels et ressources pédagogiques différents au fil des ans. Pour les débutants, j'utilise les livres de la méthode Alfred pour les concepts de base, et pour la technique du piano classique et jazz, j'utilise les livres ABRSM (niveaux 1 à 8). Si mon élève estime pouvoir mieux apprendre avec d'autres livres, j'adapterai volontiers mes stratégies pédagogiques à ses besoins. En plus des manuels ci-dessous, j'utilise de nombreux supports pédagogiques adaptés aux centres d'intérêt des élèves. Je m'efforce également d'enseigner leurs chansons préférées le plus tôt possible. J'aime expliquer et démontrer clairement la technique pianistique. Ainsi, les élèves peuvent appliquer les informations à des passages similaires de tous genres musicaux. Piano/Clavier - Alfred, Hal Leonard, Abrsm Grade (1-8), Trinity Grade (1-8), Hanon etc.

At my studio my students will not only learn how to play the piano, but they will receive a complete musical education in order to achieve their musical dreams. I will give all my best so everybody will get the tools for developing their own voice, helping them to master the instrument and teaching them all the theoretical knowledge they’ll need to make their particular personality shine. In my class you will not only be able to receive piano lessons but also will learn to understand how the music works as a language. If the interest and the profile of the student goes in the direction of the purely classical music performance, the lessons will be focused on a deep and conscious piano technique development, practicing techniques, musical interpretation, history of music, history of the piano, applied harmony on the keyboard, analysis, and score reading by a method that I have developed for over 15 years of experience. And if the students wish, I can help them to prepare for the ABRSM exams and competitions as well. All this is aiming to achieve in a very practical and exciting experience the best results in the fastest way possible. But if the profile and the interests of the students goes on another way, I will give them all the tools they need to understand the language of music in depth, so they can find their own voice on the instrument. In that case the lessons will include contents of piano technique, score reading, applied harmony on the keyboard, composition, improvisation, musical arrangement, music production, recording techniques, jazz and pop music analysis and performance. Both programs can be combined depending on the focus and the profile of the student, or in case the student would like to go deeper in one of the previously mentioned subjects there is the opportunity to take an independent course of specialization on the desired topic. At the end of the semester every student will perform at the winter and summer concerts held every year and will have the possibility of making a recording session with the material worked during the term. With this, the student will not only be able to see his progress and work, but also will give him a direct experience of performing and working on a live or studio recording session, which is a fundamental part of the developing process of every musician. COURS CHEZ L'ÉLÈVE, CHEZ LE PROFESSEUR OU EN LIGNE Pianiste et musicologue diplômé, j'enseigne depuis plus de 20 ans le piano et la théorie de la musique dans tous les styles (classique, jazz, musique de film, musique populaire...) à des élèves de tous âges et niveaux. Selon les envies, tous les aspects de la musique et du répertoire de piano sont abordés : Lecture de partitions, analyse, jeu à l'oreille, improvisation, développement de la musicalité, travail plus technique, jeu en ensemble, culture et histoire de la musique, préparation au jeu en public, répertoire peu connu... J'enseigne également le solfège de manière ludique et interactive, afin de favoriser les réflexes et la compréhension rapide. Quels que soient vos objectifs (initiation, préparation à un examen, amélioration des points faibles), je vous apporterai ce que la plupart des enseignements publics sont incapables de vous offrir afin de vous permettre de faire d'énormes progrès. L'enseignement est dynamique, moderne et adapté à chaque élève. Il combine solfège, travail de l'oreille et instrument et s'adresse aux élèves de tous niveaux, du débutant (ou faux débutant) au musicien plus avancé. Le niveau et les besoins sont déterminés dès la première leçon. Pour garantir les progrès, la motivation et, surtout, le plaisir, je fais régulièrement le point sur les acquis et les attentes de mes élèves. Évolutifs, ils sont personnalisés et s'adaptent aux progrès et aux besoins de l'élève. Quelle que soit l'orientation choisie, les bases de l'apprentissage de l'instrument demeurent communes (position des mains, technique au piano, bases de la théorie, travail de l'oreille et de la sensibilité musicale). Dans un deuxième temps, les leçons évoluent en fonction des progrès et des goûts de l'élève. La convivialité est garantie ! Si l'apprentissage du piano demande de l'investissement (physique, mental, temporel, etc.), je ferai toujours de mon mieux pour que vous appreniez dans les meilleures conditions ! Il est possible de suivre les cours à domicile (Schaerbeek, à proximité de la station prémétro Diamant), au domicile de l'élève (Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Schaerbeek, Saint-Josse, Evere et autres communes limitrophes, occasionnellement dans le Brabant wallon) mais également à distance (plusieurs webcams permettent de suivre le cours dans des conditions optimales). La fréquence des leçons est au choix de l'élève : chaque semaine (pour une progression rapide), toutes les deux semaines ou à différentes dates convenues à l'avance selon les disponibilités de chacun. Toutefois, le facteur déterminant demeure le travail personnel chez soi, sur base des consignes qui auront été données au cours. Les cours peuvent être donnés en français, anglais et espagnol.
